4 Promising Projects That Could Help Transform the Fashion Industry

As illustrated by the learn-care-organize-invest-shoulder schema, as consumers, the first step to integrating a conscious fashion habit into our everyday lives, is to change our mindset. But what is happening on the other – industry — side? If we look at what’s trending in 2019, sustainability seems to be IT.So, let’s talk about 4 promising projects with the potential for a sustainable impact.

#1 Paris Good Fashion

Paris, the world’s fashion capital, wants to take over responsibility. Paris Good Fashion is an initiative with the clear goal of making Paris the world’s sustainable fashion capital by 2024. The project, led by two Parisian politicians Frédéric Hocquard (deputy to the mayor in charge of cultural diversity and nightlife) and Antoinette Guhl (deputy in charge of social economy and solidarity), together with Isabelle Lefort, a former fashion journalist, wants to make industry players advocate for more environmental consciousness in their field.

#2 F-FABRIC by Freitag

The Swiss bag producer, Freitag, has created a clothing line that is 100% naturally compostable. Yes, 100%. The two Freitag brothers have already inadvertently triggered a seismic event in the world of bag-making, with the Freitag Bag. Committed to the circular closed-loop economy, they developed F-ABRIC, a raw material based on bast fibers from which they can produce completely compostable textiles. Even more promising, is that the textiles are produced using a minimum of resources, within a 2500-kilometer radius of their Zurich headquarters.

#3 Fashion Revolution Transparency Report

Transformation through transparency. The people leading the global Fashion Revolution movement, believe that transparency is the first step to transforming the industry. This year they published their third, consecutive fashion transparency report, and the initiative is beginning to bear fruit. The 98 brands and retailers included in the Fashion Transparency Index, have increased their level of transparency by an average of approximately 5%, compared to the results for 2017 and 2018.

#4 NEONYT at Messe Frankfurt

The birth of NEONYT. The world’s biggest business-to-business fair for sustainable fashion took place this year in January, with 150 international brands from 26 countries. The event’s organizers state that the fashion and textile industry will be revolutionized through technology, sustainability and innovation. During the fair, they bring together experts and industry leaders to learn, connect, share and activate change. They want to build a new, international hub for sustainability, innovation and fashion with this approach.

Fair fashion has not yet had its big breakthrough and is still perceived as being either too expensive or not fashionable enough. But projects like a sustainable fashion capital, the realization of a compostable clothing line, the fruits of transparency and the birth of the world’s biggest business-to-business event for sustainable fashion, suggest that this perception might change in the future.
