Beyond the Breath: Fabio Tunno’s Odyssey into Freediving as a Way of Life

As I approach the end of this blog post series, a journey that covers a wide range of topics and features a variety of depth in the sport, I find myself reflecting on an exceptional encounter. Today, I am excited to share the highlight of this series: a video podcast with Fabio Tunno, a name that resonates greatly in the world of freediving and ranks 3rd overall plus the 31st in AIDA Freediving World Championship in 2023.

Fabio’s story is extraordinary, a champion of hope and resilience. Once an industrial engineer, with a planned and structured career, he courageously chose to shift his whole life. His journey from despair to discovering his passion for freediving is a testament to his brave spirit.

Fabio’s transition wasn’t just a career shift; it was a leap into an unrestrained life where he embraced the freedom of the oceans. At Fabioluos Freediving School, he doesn’t just teach the techniques of freediving; he imparts a philosophy of life. His compassion extends beyond his students, touching the lives of his family, and shaping the profound of his journey.

Fabio Tunno – Freediving Champion

In the following podcast video, Fabio shared valuable insights that dive deeper into the sport. “Freediving is not an extreme sport,” he explained. “It’s the diver who pushes the limits, who turns it into an extreme.” This perspective resonated personally with me since freediving gained a reputation of being an extreme sport it was important to hear that statement, as it defies this reputation.

Fabio also shed light on some of the topics previously discussed in this blog thread such as psychological nuances and physiological reactions in the mammalian dive reflex. His upcoming workshop promises to be a deep dive into these intriguing aspects of freediving.
