7 reasons why Kosovo should be your next trip.

Like many other countries, Kosovo the youngest country in Europe has a lot to offer to upcoming tourists. Probably one of the most unspoiled areas leaves a lot to discover and the following reasons serve just as a start to the journey.

For many people, traveling to Kosovo would maybe be somewhere way back at their list. From my experience, there are people, who never heard of Kosovo, or at least they vaguely remember snapshots from the news related to war conflicts with Serbia and traveling there would be the last thing coming in their mind.

Therefore as I was born and raised in Kosovo  I feel responsible to at least provide you with some notes on why you should be visiting Kosovo at least once, as things have changed a lot better.

Spend Time with young and friendly people

Not randomly I started talking about people, as they represent the most valuable asset that our country has.  In general, people in Kosovo shift towards more a collectivist culture, highly valuing relationships with their family members and people surrounding them. You still can see lots of families where parents live together with their married children in the same house, and Yes  Father manages the money (H).

In this sense as a visitor in Kosovo you benefit a lot, people tend to be very friendly and they can’t wait to meet someone to show them the most interesting facts about Kosovo, their personal experiences and most favorite places to go. You would have the chance to meet a lot of people who are willing to guide you around, as many of them have a lot of free time to spare due to high unemployment which is unfortunate in a way.

The best part….  Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe, more than 65% are aged under 30yrs. The Albanian language is hard but lucky enough most of its population are very good at English, and many know other languages like German, Turkish, Serbian.

It cannot get any cheaper

If you are in Kosovo as a tourist you would probably afford everything that comes into your mind… it is your chance to have the  Sheikh-ish lifestyle.

  • A room in a Budget hotel would cost you about 10euros, a midrange hotel 25-30 euros per night.
  • You can eat at local shops by spending 2 euros per meal and end up spending 10-12 euros in the best restaurants.
  • 1 euro for a beer, and only 0.50 cents for a coffee

Nightlife and Festivals

-Feel the rhythm and do the moves you always wanted

As Kosovo is mainly populated by people under 30, one for sure can expect that nightlife would be at its best. People usually prefer to go out on Wednesdays, Friday (the peak) and less on Saturday.  If you want to get a glimpse of the nightlife to make  sure to go to Zone, Duplex, and Rooftop13

There are also plenty of festivals organized, but most of them happen during the summer. The top three list would be completed by, Dokufest, Sunny Hill Festival (organized by Dua Lipa), Beerfest.

Coffee, and bars around

-Where all good vibeZ are rooted

So far I have visited many places and there is no coffee like in Kosovo. It is ridiculously cheap and very tasty. There is no Starbucks, but it would the last thing you look for. There are plenty of coffee shops, and most of them are always crowded with people, especially in Pristina, where coffees are mainly overcrowded with young people, as most of the students do their studies there.

Some of the coffee shops which you might have a look at are Soma, Bon Vivant, Che Bar, Dite e Nate, Lulus.

Ski Resorts, and plenty of places to hike-

-an opportunity to discover the unknown

Kosovo is quite rich in mountains and probably one of the cheapest places to ski. You would need to spend only 30 euros including all necessary equipment and ski passes. Brezovica is the main region where people ski, followed by Rugova another astonishing ski resort. Prevalle and Brod are two other options but whose infrastructure is not well developed as in Brezovice. and Rugove.

Besides skiing, Kosovo provides Hikers with plenty of peaks to climb, each of them having their unique landscapes. Gjeravica, Hajla, Guri I Kuq, Luboteni, and many others are left to those who are passionate to discover. If you want to know what to explore and have more details regarding the mountainous areas  check this article.

Have your delicious bite from the traditional cuisine

#porndish

Food in Kosovo tends to be very Delicious and cheap at the same time.  It is that cheap that on many occasions it is more affordable to eat outside rather than cooking yourself.

History relates Kosovo with many invasions which led to having a very diversified cuisine. However, most of its food is influenced by Albanian, Turkish, Italian and Greek cuisine. Pies, meat, dairy specialties, and vegetables tend to be very delicious and unique. FLIA is among the most favorite dishes in traditional cuisine.

Important keywords you should look for in the menu:

Flia, Pite ( cheese, meat, spinach), Pogaçe, Speca me maze, Krelan ( me Duqa, kallamojt), LLokuma, Ajvar, Suxhuk, Pleskavica, Qebapa nkajmak,  Trileqe (cake),  Mish nTave.
