Japan Food Fest in Zug: A Culinary Journey

The Japan Food Fest in Zug has improved! This year the festival is thrilled to introduce over 20 stalls (16 food, 6 non-food), each offering unique flavors and experiences from Japan. With these inclusions, visitors can anticipate a range of dishes and a more immersive exploration of Japanese culture.

Last weekend, the peaceful city of Zug came alive with the Japan Food Fest turning into a vibrant culinary hotspot. Right next to its calm lake, Zug held an event that was a big celebration of the rich and varied taste of Japanese cuisine. Here’s a summary of the best parts of the festival, showing why it was a special event for everyone who came.

Exploring the Menu

1. Sushi Showcase

The festival started with an impressive show of sushi and sashimi that everyone loved. Skilled chefs showed off their talent, making small, beautiful pieces of sushi that looked and tasted wonderful. The fresh fish, with lightly flavored rice, highlighted the authentic flavors of Japanese food at its best.

2. Ramen Corner

Ramen is a popular noodle soup in Japan, and you can try many types at the festival. You can choose what you want in your soup, like pork, chicken, or vegetables. Each bowl had its own special flavors of Japan.

3. Street Food Stroll

A Japanese festival must have street food, and this festival does too. It feels like you are walking on the streets of Tokyo. You can try different snacks like Takoyaki, Yakitori, Chicken Karaage, and Okonomiyaki. These are great to eat while you look around, enjoy the busy festival, and watch some live cooking shows.

4. Desserts:  Mochi and Matcha

Every Japanese festival embraces the side of life. The assortment of mochi ranging from bean to matcha delighted both youngsters and grown-ups. The matcha treats, particularly the matcha drinks offered a balanced finale to the culinary journey.

5. Sampling Sake and Tasting Tea

To complement the food, the festival provides a chosen assortment of Japanese drinks. Those who appreciate sake can partake in tastings while discovering the types and methods of brewing. On the other hand, individuals who love tea can savor the tradition of a classic Japanese tea ceremony immersing themselves in the soothing qualities of matcha and other expertly brewed teas.

A Celebrity Encounter

Encounter with a food vlogger

One of the best moments of the festival was meeting one of the famous food bloggers in Switzerland (Thuja Leo). It was great to talk about how Japanese cuisine is becoming popular around the world, especially in Switzerland, and to discuss the food trends that are shaping the culinary world.

My visit to the Japan Food Fest in Zug was truly memorable, filled with amazing food and interesting conversations. I left with a full stomach and a deeper appreciation for Japanese culture and cuisine.
