TOP peaks a hiker must climb while in mountains of Kosovo

Even though small in territorial size, Kosovo is rich in mountains and offers plenty of astonishing sightseeing’s to visit. Its unspoiled nature makes it even more attractive to people who are willing to explore and experience a unique journey.

Brezovia and Rugova are two of the most popular areas when it comes to international tourists. Besides the remarkable landscapes that one can find, they tend to be easily accessible and offer a good infrastructure for skiing. Moreover, there are plenty of restaurants and hotels where you can have a bite of traditional cuisine too… summing it up are all important factors which create an attractive environment to be at.

However, lucky enough that is just a start and there is much more to see. If you feel “fit” and are willing to discover new landscapes which will differentiate you from others, prepare your Backpack and be ready to hike the unknown!

Many of the pictures are done from “ Hiking Njeri ” which is a non-governmental organization that arranges excursions for people interested in hiking trails of Kosovo. Their aim is of promoting end exploring the high beautiful attitudes of Kosovo.

Hiking in Vertop…

You would have approximately  2,555 m attitude to climb, or saying it differently would take you up to 3hrs to reach the peak.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vertop is part of the Sharr Mountains and shapes the border of Kosovo with its neighbor Macedonia.  It is known for its form of a pyramid  and rocky ridge

Hiking in Sharr, Jazhnice…

We are still in the mountains of Sharr, but on a different peak in 2604m height.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There you can also be amazed by the Seasonal Pond in depth of 2-6m

Hiking in Guri I kuq and Leqinat Lake…

Guri i Kuq reaches a height of 2522m and in the north of the mountain, you can find Rugova Canyon. There is also a restaurant with the same name where you can taste some of the traditional food.

On the way to Guri Kuq is impossible not to stop by Lake Leqinati which is above the village Kuqishte and one of the most famous spots to visit.

Hiking in Botusha/ Koshare

When choosing this trail you find yourself in Gjakova, Junik. If hiking is your thing, and you consider yourself as durable and strong you can also reach the peak of Maja e Zogut. It would be a 20km trek

Hiking is only one part of the puzzle and there are plenty of other reasons why you should be visiting Kosovo
