The Göscheneralptal is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Alps
I will now share one of my favorite hiking destinations with you. You may or may not have heard of the majestic blue Göscheneralpsee located in Andermatt in the canton of Uri. The majestic mountain scenery with a dam, glacier and flora around the Göscheneralpsee is simply extraordinary! If you do not believe me, have a look yourself:
This is one of the most well-known hikes in the Andermatt region. The hike starts at the Post bus station. The first decision you face when tackling this hike, is the direction you would like to walk in: clockwise or counter-clockwise? Let our journey take us in the counterclockwise direction, towards the Bergseehütte.
It will take you about 2 hours to reach the Bergseehütte. The guided path leads you past granite boulders and majestic vistas. Once you have reached this mountain hut, you will have the opportunity to look down to the Göscheneralpsee with a view of the Dammastock (the highest mountain in the Urner Alps).

Circular hike around the Göscheneralpsee – Bergseehütte
After spending a night at the Bergseehütte, the hike can continue. Your journey continues through stony alpine pastures, along and around stone slabs and lastly you return to the starting point of the hike through a moorland landscape. The circular hike around the Göscheneralpsee will take you around 3 hours, depending on the number of breaks you decide to take.

- The lake has a maximum depth of 100 meters
- The Göscheneralpsee reservoir was completed in 1960
- The famous giant crystals from the Planggenstock were found here
