Surfskate
One of the newer inventions in the skateboarding world, that has been gaining increasing popularity and attention, is the surfskate. This skateboard variant has specially designed trucks (the part connecting wheels and board) that imitate the motions and actions of surfing. Surfskating has gained popularity as a recreational hobby, the sport has also become a popular tool for surfers to stay in shape when away from the sea. If you need to get into shape before your next surf trip or are just looking for a playful ride to cruise around on, a skatesurf could be the toy missing in your arsenal.
It is not necessary to surf in order to learn surfskating. The activity that can be learned by anyone even if you have never tried surfing before. The movements needed to ride (or pump) a surfskate are not difficult to pick-up, the movement is intuitive and can be learned with little practice. Once a rider has learned the technique of pumping they can build speed and maintain momentum without having to push the floor with your feet.
The shape and size of a surfskate can vary greatly depending on the brand of the board. But one similarity that all brands share, is having fluid, loose trucks with a wide range of motion. This is the technology that allows the board to simulate the fluidity and maneuverability of riding waves.
With the winter season ended and the mountain resorts closed, it’s the best time to pick up surfskating. If you are a board-sport lover and itching to rail some turns, surfskating is an ideal sport to pick up as we approach summer. As part of my blog, I will learn how to surfskate and document my progression. Stay tuned for more!
