Hello, and welcome back to my series Let’s talk about Microsoft 365!
As foreshadowed in my post about formatting papers with Microsoft Word, I want to share some simple hacks on how you can use Microsoft PowerPoint to create animated videos.
Although PowerPoint is getting more and more frowned upon and already wears the label “outdated” in regards to presentations, I am a huge fan and constant user of the software. While I do like to create nice-looking slides with PowerPoint, I must admit that I mostly misuse it as a “layouting” and content creation tool. I don’t have (yet) the skills or paid-for license to use the Adobe Creative Cloud apps such as Photoshop, but I can pretty much create anything in PowerPoint – and you can too!
In the short video below, you can find out how you too can create a simple animated video using nothing but PowerPoint.

Here are some additional points to ensure you have a visually pleasing video:
- Decide on a colour palette and stick to it!
- If you want to work with reoccurring layouts, build them out as a master slide to minimize the moveable object on your slides.
- Use the presentation mode or the animation pane to preview your animations.
- With animations, I prefer the “less is more” approach. To make everything look cohesive, stick with the same kind of animations as it might quickly look too crazy otherwise.
- For stock footage, you can use free services like Canva.com. To find out more about this topic, check out the following post: Canva – The key to unlocking your designer needs

And there you have it! You don’t need to be an animator or professional video producer to create a nice-looking animated video. Try it out for yourself and share your experiences in the chat below!

I‘m glad you enjoyed the video ?
Thank you for including my post Valentina! Love how it’s simple and informative. Can’t believe I’ve never considered exploring more with PowerPoint itself!
Thanks, Megan!
Sometimes great things can come out of just trying to work with what you have and making the most out of that – and PowerPoint is certainly a good example of that ?
