Before You Shop for Summer… Read This

Ever feel like clothes just used to be better? Like—how is it that your grandma’s 90s Levi’s still look iconic, but your €60 Zara pants fell apart after three washes?

Spoiler: it’s not just you.

We’re living in the age of fast everything—and fashion is no exception. Whether you’re buying a €5 tee from Shein or splurging on Nike, Hollister, COS, even Chanel (yep, sorry)—a lot of what’s out there just isn’t made to last anymore.

High price ≠ high quality.

Don’t let the logo fool you. That “luxury” top might still be 100% polyester—a.k.a. plastic in disguise. And guess what? That same plastic doesn’t breathe, irritates your skin, and sheds microplastics every time you wash it. Cute, right?

What used to last years now falls apart in months. And while we’re chasing trends, brands are cutting corners—cheap materials, rushed production, and zero transparency. So we end up paying more for less… and the planet picks up the tab.

So… What Are You Actually Wearing?

Let’s talk materials—because most of us never check the tag. (No shade, we’ve all been there.)

But here’s the thing: if your clothes say polyester, acrylic, or nylon—congrats, you’re basically wearing plastic. Literally. These are synthetic, oil-based fabrics made in labs to be cheap, stretchy, and shiny… but your skin? Not a fan.

Fun fact (or nightmare fuel):
Polyester doesn’t breathe, traps bacteria and sweat, and has been linked to hormone-disrupting chemicals. Some studies even suggest it can irritate your skin over time. So if you’ve ever felt itchy, clammy, or just kinda gross in your outfit—now you know why.

And it gets worse.

Every time you wash your favorite poly-blend shirt? Tiny plastic particles (aka microplastics) break off and go straight into our water systems. They end up in oceans, rivers, fish—and yep, even in our bodies.

Fashion isn’t just about what we see in the mirror. It touches your skin all day, every day. And it has a much bigger impact than whatever’s trending on TikTok.

Coming Up Next:

We’re calling out some of your fave brands—yes, the ones we’ve all been lowkey obsessed with—and breaking down just how overpriced (and overhyped) they really are.
Spoiler: that €120 “luxury” top? Same synthetic material as a €15 one from fast fashion.

But don’t worry—I’m not here to ruin your entire closet. I’ve got you with some legit recommendations for brands that actually deserve your money. Think: better fabrics, better vibes, better for the planet.

Stay tuned.

I started this blog to help make fashion more understandable—one label at a time. There’s a lot of talk about “sustainability” in fashion, but it can be hard to know what’s actually true. My goal with this blog is to break down what clothes are really made of, how they’re produced, and what that means for people and the planet. I write for curious people who want to make more informed choices—but don’t want to be overwhelmed by technical terms or greenwashing. Through stories, facts, and simple visuals, I try to make the complex world of materials and certifications easier to navigate. This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about asking better questions, understanding what’s behind the tag, and learning how to shop with more awareness and intention.
