If you’re like me and sticking to just one sport feels impossible, you should try hybrid training—or at least my version of it!
I love lifting heavy in the gym, improving my endurance with running, and also having a blast with friends playing volleyball or hiking up a mountain. It is all about embracing variety -> balancing different sports, keeping things exciting, and making progress without the boredom of doing the same workout every day.
So, What Exactly is Hybrid Training?
Hybrid training is a form of training where you combine strength training and endurance (usually running). Instead of focusing on just one discipline (like bodybuilding or marathon running), a hybrid athlete blends multiple sports to improve his all-round performance.
But here’s the thing—most people think hybrid training is just about gym and running. For me, it’s so much more than that! My version of hybrid training combines a variety of sports that not only improve my fitness but also bring me genuine joy. My training consists of strength training, running, volleyball, cycling, and occasionally hiking or swimming. I love the variety and the challenge of moving my body in different ways. And this approach keeps things exciting!
Fun fact: You don’t have to be a professional athlete to train like one.
Why Should You Try Hybrid Training?
If you’re the type of person who gets bored doing the same workouts over and over, or if you love challenging your body in different ways, hybrid training is for you.
Here’s why:
- Strength AND Endurance: You build your muscle and train for better endurance at the same time.
- Prevents Burnout: Changing up workouts keeps things fresh and exciting.
- Functional Fitness: Prepares your body for real-life movement—like lifting groceries or running after a bus.
- Mental Boost: Mixing sports keeps your mind engaged, helping with motivation and confidence.
- More Freedom: You’re not stuck in one training style—you can mix gym days, runs, volleyball, hikes, or whatever you love!
