DIY: Hand Cream for Soft Skin

Hello beautiful readers! ?

We use them all the time to communicate so it’s not surprising that they’re the first thing people notice. While most of us prioritize skincare for our faces, the same level of attention often doesn’t extend to our hands…

“As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others” – Audrey Hepburn ?

It’s a beautiful feeling, reminding us of the importance of both self-care and reaching out to support those around us. In that spirit, I would like to show you how to create your own natural hand cream based on essential oils.

Benefits of Hand Creams:

  • Moisturizing: they hydrate and replenish the skin and prevent dryness and roughness.
  • Protection: they create a barrier on the skin’s surface, helping to shield it from environmental stressors such as pollution.
  • Nail Health: they can also benefit your nails by keeping them moisturized and preventing breakage and brittleness.

DIY: Hand Cream

Over the past years your hands have been exposed to hydro-alcoholic gels and repeated washing. Therefore it is really important to take care of them and nourishing them with an appropriate hand cream that is not only natural but also very simple to create with only a few ingredients. ✨

Ingredients:

 Steps:

  1. Melt the ingredients: Make a bain-marie and add the cocoa butter, coconut oil, olive oil and starch to the pot. Stir the mixture well from time to time until everything has melted.
  2. Add the essential oil: When everything is completely liquid, remove the smaller cooking pot from the bain-marie and add some essential oil.
  3. Fill and chill: Fill the liquid (cream) into a glass jar and let it cool completely. Then seal the glass jar and leave it in the fridge to harden.

?Durability: Keeps for a maximum of two to three weeks. It is better to make small quantities and use them up quickly.

I would like to outline some benefits of the essential oils you might use for your hand cream:

  • Ylang ylang: It balances the oil production in the skin and improves skin elasticity.
  • Vanilla: it can help to protect your skin from damage and is inducing feelings of calmness.
  • Cinnamon: it can help fight off infections and improves circulation with its warming effect.

Precautions when utilizing essential oils (EO):
  • always perform an allergy test on the elbow before use (at least 24 hours) because EO can be potentially irritating
  • avoid eye contact
  • keep away from heat and light
  • be careful when using EO, never exceed the recommended dose
  • do not use during pregnancy or while breast-feeding
  • do not use on children

⚠️: Before you follow my instructions, I strongly suggest you to first identify the products your skin cannot tolerate to avoid allergic reactions, because yes even if a product is natural it cannot be suitable for you.
