Hi friend! I hope you are doing well. Today’s topic is about practicing gratitude and counting your blessings daily. Isn’t it amazing how much we can be grateful for? I pray this post will inspire you and show you how to develop a grateful heart in everyday life. I can tell you from experience: being grateful truly makes you happier. Let’s get started! 🤍
A quote that has stuck with me for years is:
“It’s not happy people who are grateful, but grateful people who are happy.”
I love this perspective! It makes so much sense to me. You can have all the money in the world, expensive cars, a great career, or even just a healthy body—a nose to breathe with, arms to move, legs to walk on, eyes to see with. If you have these things, you are truly blessed.
Friend, I love that we serve a God who is good and who wants a relationship with us.
The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18:
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
And in Psalm 107:1:
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
Sometimes I notice that I forget to be thankful, even though there are so many things I could be grateful for. Life is truly a blessing. Just the fact that you can read this post, breathe the air God gives, and live this day is a gift. What a great God! 🤍
Hey friend, I am so thankful for you! Remember always: you are truly loved.
Personal Story
There was a time in my life when, instead of being grateful for what I had, I caught myself comparing my life to others. I focused on what they had and what seemed better in their lives. But friend, I believe comparison robs our joy. So I reminded myself to be thankful for the things God gave me and chose to praise Him for His goodness in my life. He is truly a faithful and good Father who loves His children.
What robs us of joy and happiness?
One big thing is comparison.
But what if something happens to us that we didn’t want or pray for? Even then, let’s choose to be thankful. Sometimes a rejection is God’s redirection. He always works for our good.
Romans 8:28 (NIV):
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Action Steps: How to Develop a Grateful Heart
• Write down every morning in a journal three things you are thankful for.
Whether in a paper journal, on your phone, or simply by telling God after you wake up—find your way!
(I personally recommend a paper journal, because it’s distraction-free and helps you focus. When I tried doing it in my head, I sometimes got tired or distracted and forgot—so writing it down really helps!)
For example:
21 May 2025
Today I am thankful for:
1. Waking up healthy with a strong heart and ears to hear
2. Meeting my friend from university and studying together
3. The beautiful weather outside
Sometimes, when you start practicing gratitude, you’ll find it hard to stop! (That’s a good thing.) Sometimes I write down five or six reasons because so many come to mind. Focusing on the good and practicing gratitude daily is so important—and it’s healthy for your heart, friend.
In the evening, when your day comes to an end:
Grab your journal and write:
Cool things that happened to me today:
1. I gave my seat to a grandma on the bus and she smiled at me
2. My friend invited me for coffee
3. I ate my favorite ice cream
As you can see, the things you’re thankful for don’t need to be huge or expensive. Small things can make someone smile or change your day.
