đ What if Every Hike Told a Story?
We often hike for the views, the silence, the sense of achievement. But what if, in between the rocks and roots, there were stories hidden? Not on signs or mapsâbut in the land itself?
Iâve always loved the feeling of walking alone in natureâwhen the world gets quiet enough that you can hear something deeper. Lately, Iâve started to notice that some places feel different. Like they remember something. Like theyâre holding something.
Switzerland is known for its order, its beauty, its perfectly maintained trails. But underneath that polished surface, I believe thereâs something elseâsomething older. Something worth listening to.
đ Why I Started Mythic Trails
Iâve been living in Switzerland for about three years, and Iâve spent most of my weekends escaping into the mountains. Whenever I feel tired of life, I create a nice hiking route, spend some time in the mountains, listen to the sounds of nature, and find inner peace.
But not long ago, while reading about a trail, I came across a single line that changed everything:
âThis mountain is said to be home to a sleeping dragon.â
That was it. One sentence. One spark.
I started looking deeperâand I found story after story. Tales of witches gathering under full moons. Spirits haunting forests. Cursed lakes. Healing stones. Giants, devils, faeries.
Not just fantasy, but legends tied to real placesâplaces I could actually walk through.
Thatâs when this project was born.
Mythic Trails is my way of combining two things I love: hiking and storytelling.Itâs about walking through landscapes that hold memory. Itâs about seeing a mountain not just as a peak, but as a character in an ancient story.
And maybe, itâs about remembering that weâve always told stories to understand the places we live in.
đ„Ÿ What Youâll Find on This Blog
This isnât a blog about the top 10 hikes in Switzerland or which boots to buy. Itâs about something more exciting and curious.
This blog is a blend of reality and folklore, meant to take you into both nature and narrative.
Each post will explore a hiking trailâbut not just in terms of elevation gain or distance. Iâll also share:
-
đșïž A legend or story tied to that place
-
đ„Ÿ My experience walking through it
-
âïž Reflections and moments that stayed with me
-
đź Tips to experience the same atmosphere
-
đ The most memorable spots along the trail
Some of these stories will be myths and folklore, passed down through generations.
Others will be rooted in real history â quiet moments or turning points that shaped the places we walk today.
If youâre someone who believes thereâs more to the world than what we seeâwho feels something stir in deep woods or misty valleysâthis space is for you.
đ§ Where the Trails Lead Next
I want this project to grow organically, one trail at a timeâguided by the stories I find, or the ones that find me.
Some will be well-known legends. Others may be forgotten or half-remembered. Some might come from locals, from old books, from whispered traditions passed down through generations.
And thatâs exactly what makes it exciting.
Up next: RĂŒtli â where three cantons once stood together, and the idea of Switzerland was born.
đČ Join Me on the Mythic Trails
This isnât just about hikingâitâs about listening. Itâs about seeing landscapes not as empty spaces, but as story-holders.
Memory-keepers. Portals.
If this resonates with you, follow the journeyâone trail, one legend, one story at a time.
And if youâve ever hiked somewhere that felt different, Iâd love to hear about it in the comments.
âš Join me as the next legend unfolds â @swissmythhikes

I must say hiking in the canton of Appenzell in Switzerland always feels magic to me. I don’t know, if its the many little grass-green hills or if it’s the memories of my childhood.. so I hope maybe you will touch on a myth from there in an upcoming blogpost? Anyways great post, I am impatiently waiting for the next one.. :))
Thank you so much!
Appenzell is definitely on my list â I just want to wait for a bit more sunshine before heading there. Iâd love to explore a local myth from that region too. Stay tuned!
