š What if Every Hike Told a Story?
We often hike for the views, the silence, the sense of achievement. But what if, in between the rocks and roots, there were stories hidden? Not on signs or mapsābut in the land itself?
Iāve always loved the feeling of walking alone in natureāwhen the world gets quiet enough that you can hear something deeper. Lately, Iāve started to notice that some places feel different. Like they remember something. Like theyāre holding something.
Switzerland is known for its order, its beauty, its perfectly maintained trails. But underneath that polished surface, I believe thereās something elseāsomething older. Something worth listening to.
š Why I Started Mythic Trails
Iāve been living in Switzerland for about three years, and Iāve spent most of my weekends escaping into the mountains. Whenever I feel tired of life, I create a nice hiking route, spend some time in the mountains, listen to the sounds of nature, and find inner peace.
But not long ago, while reading about a trail, I came across a single line that changed everything:
āThis mountain is said to be home to a sleeping dragon.ā
That was it. One sentence. One spark.
I started looking deeperāand I found story after story. Tales of witches gathering under full moons. Spirits haunting forests. Cursed lakes. Healing stones. Giants, devils, faeries.
Not just fantasy, but legends tied to real placesāplaces I could actually walk through.
Thatās when this project was born.
Mythic Trails is my way of combining two things I love: hiking and storytelling.Itās about walking through landscapes that hold memory. Itās about seeing a mountain not just as a peak, but as a character in an ancient story.
And maybe, itās about remembering that weāve always told stories to understand the places we live in.
š„¾ What Youāll Find on This Blog
This isnāt a blog about the top 10 hikes in Switzerland or which boots to buy. Itās about something more exciting and curious.
This blog is a blend of reality and folklore, meant to take you into both nature and narrative.
Each post will explore a hiking trailābut not just in terms of elevation gain or distance. Iāll also share:
-
šŗļø A legend or story tied to that place
-
š„¾ My experience walking through it
-
āļø Reflections and moments that stayed with me
-
š® Tips to experience the same atmosphere
-
š The most memorable spots along the trail
Some of these stories will be myths and folklore, passed down through generations.
Others will be rooted in real history ā quiet moments or turning points that shaped the places we walk today.
If youāre someone who believes thereās more to the world than what we seeāwho feels something stir in deep woods or misty valleysāthis space is for you.
š§ Where the Trails Lead Next
I want this project to grow organically, one trail at a timeāguided by the stories I find, or the ones that find me.
Some will be well-known legends. Others may be forgotten or half-remembered. Some might come from locals, from old books, from whispered traditions passed down through generations.
And thatās exactly what makes it exciting.
Up next: Rütli ā where three cantons once stood together, and the idea of Switzerland was born.
š² Join Me on the Mythic Trails
This isnāt just about hikingāitās about listening. Itās about seeing landscapes not as empty spaces, but as story-holders.
Memory-keepers. Portals.
If this resonates with you, follow the journeyāone trail, one legend, one story at a time.
And if youāve ever hiked somewhere that felt different, Iād love to hear about it in the comments.

I must say hiking in the canton of Appenzell in Switzerland always feels magic to me. I don’t know, if its the many little grass-green hills or if it’s the memories of my childhood.. so I hope maybe you will touch on a myth from there in an upcoming blogpost? Anyways great post, I am impatiently waiting for the next one.. :))
