Iâve wanted to start this blog series for weeks. The idea was there, the content planned and already written â and yet I kept putting it off. Iâd open my laptop, stare at the screen, then close it again.
Sound familiar?
Welcome to my blog â a space created for students who want to feel more motivated, productive, and less stuck. Iâll be sharing honest thoughts, practical tools, and small mindset shifts that help you get things finally done.
This first post is about something I know all too well: how hard it can be to just begin â and what helped me finally start.
âš Why We Put Things Off
While procrastinating, I read a book that changed how I saw myself:
The Mountain Is You by Brianna Wiest.
She writes about self-sabotage not as laziness, but as protection. One line in particular hit me hard:
«Self-sabotage is when you have two selves: the one who knows what you should be doing and the one who is afraid to do it.»
That fear might come from perfectionism, fear of failure, fear of change â or even fear of success. And thatâs exactly what I felt with this blog.
What if no one reads it? What if people do read it and donât care? What if itâs not good enough?
But as Brianna Wiest explains, your «mountain» â the thing youâre avoiding â is actually the path. The resistance is a sign that something important lies on the other side.
And I realised:Â I wasnât avoiding this blog because it didnât matter. I was avoiding it because it does.
đ How I Finally Got Started
Hereâs what helped me move through the barrier:
- I shrank the task: Instead of aiming for a perfect post, I told myself, «Just write a messy draft.»
- I separated outcome from action:Â I let go of expectations. The goal wasnât to impress â just to begin.
- I reminded myself why I care:Â I thought of the student who might read this and feel less alone.
These arenât magic tricks â but they were enough to get me moving.
And thatâs why youâre reading this now.

I feel you! Honestly, just now I was thinking of postponing to write a comment on your blog – but I didn’t!đȘđŒ Really looking forward to your next insights!
I am happy this post already helped you! It is the small things đ
Hey, uff, yes, I definitely procrastinate a lot. And the worst ones are usually decisions, like: What topic should I choose for my masterâs thesis? Should I book the trip or buy a ticket for that event? Should I return or keep the clothes? I always postpone these decisions until the very last minute. Either the options are already gone, or I really have to decide đ
I know, we all struggle with the same things right? đ
I like this series because I live these things in first person in many aspects of my life
Great, I hope this can help you a little and make your life easier âșïž
