Receiving bag too good to go

🥐 Is Too Good To Go worth it in Switzerland?

I have been using this application for some time; since I discovered it, the first thing I wanted to do was to try it out. So far, I have used it ten times. I have bought secret bags in Zug, Lucerne and Schaffhausen, and I have rescued bread, pretzels, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and even sushi.

Bakery Experience

The first time I used the app was in November 2021, I had checked the offers many times, but I didn’t dare to try it, mainly because I saw that the schedules were quite late, and in the winter, I didn’t want to go out. On a Thursday, when I was visiting my cousin’s house, I was on the train, and out of curiosity, I checked the app and saw that there were offers available at the Bahnhof; I clicked on it and bought.

I had to pick up the surprise bag between 19:30 and 20:00, I arrived on the train, and it was 10 minutes away, hence I waited around in the supermarket buying a drink until it was time. So, I arrived, and the saleswoman started filling a bag with what she had left. They gave me the bag and everything; she mentioned this because there are places where the app tells you to bring a bag or even a container to receive the food.

This is what I received in my first bag (unfortunately, at the time, I wasn’t planning to have a blog, and I didn’t take any pictures of the excitement):

  • 1 Chicken sandwich
  • 2 Croissants
  • 1 Sweet pretzel
  • 1 Salty pretzel

It was completely worth it because the timing was super convenient just as I was passing through the Bahnhof; it didn’t take long to reserve the bag; it was more than enough for our breakfast the following day. Everything was fresh, and I think the price was reasonable as usually in that shop alone, one pretzel is about the value of almost CHF 5.

Supermarket Experience

Several times from home I had looked for offers nearby, I had seen that there is a supermarket from which you can buy several types of bags: flowers, fruits/vegetables, sushi, vegetarian products and another one called surprise that can include various products.

To share it here, I decided to try it out to see what I would get. I ordered two bags in the morning for collection at the end of the day. I had to pick up both between 18:30 and 19:00. I bought a flower order for CHF 4.90 and a fruit/vegetable bag for CHF 5.90. I went and was surprised that the things were in a basket; I wasn’t expecting so many things. I filled my bag and carried the flowers home.

This is what I received:

Fruits/Vegetables

  • 2 kg oranges
  • 500 gr kiwis
  • 500 g White asparagus
  • 480 g Leek green
  • 200 gr Broccolini
  • 1 Bio cauliflower
  • 74 g horseradish

Flowers

  • 1 bouquet of lilies
  • 1 bouquet of daisies

Everything was in good condition, it wasn’t what arrived that day to be sold, obviously, but everything was safe to eat and didn’t look, taste or anything. I did immediately prepare the asparagus the next day because I didn’t know how fresh it was, and the result was great as I paid very little for asparagus, which usually costs about CHF 10 per kilo.

Conclusion

According to Too Good To Go’s annual report 2021, globally, 40% of food is wasted; trying to reduce that percentage is worthwhile for me. In addition, for a reduced value, I can receive food in perfect condition in Switzerland, where I consider eating out expensive, especially for students.

For me, it is worth it. I like the concept, and I’m sure I will continue to use it; I love that more and more businesses are part of the app and offer their products at a reduced price at the end of the day.

    1. Hello Gina,
Thank you for your comment 💚
Yes, I really like Too Good To Go. You know I just rescued a bag from a salad shop, and it was delicious, for 7.90 CHF I got 2 salads: one with chicken and the other with shrimp!
What are you waiting for to try the app?
