Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine. The aim is to preserve health and wellness by keeping the mind, body, and spirit in balance. Also, preventing any disease by inculcating healthy lifestyle rather than treating it. Ayurvedic treatment practices a holistic approach that combines diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. The key idea is treating the symptoms of a disease and it helps individuals to strengthen their immune system. Ayurveda treats the body as a whole entity and works on the basis that the mind and body affect each other, and together can overcome the disease.

Here I list down some of the differences between Ayurveda and conventional medicine:

Being Natural – Prevention of diseases

Ayurveda is based on natural methods and one of the main purposes of Ayurveda is preventing the diseases from appearing on our body.  Ayurveda medicine aims for disease prevention and fighting the symptoms of the disease. Ayurveda uses mainly plant extracts in its herbal oils and natural medicine products. The natural medicines Ayurveda don’t contain any toxins. They also can be taken safely in combination with other medicines.

Positive for the mind, body, and soul

Unlike western medicine, Ayurveda medicine includes meditation, yoga exercise and breathing exercises which have also a proven effect on the mind as they relax the nervous system. Ayurveda meditation techniques lead to a reduction in anxiety and stress symptoms and even helps patients with depression. It is also learnt that it has a positive effect on insomnia and making sleep patterns better.

Aids in weight loss management

Ayurveda boosts the metabolism and thus helps in weight loss management. The Ayurveda diet includes low-calorie foods that keep us feeling full for a long time and probiotic-rich foods that enhance digestion. When followed regularly and in the right way Ayurveda diet helps us not only achieve good health and a slim body but also maintain it in the long run, unlike conventional medicine.

Fighting inflammation

Inflammation can be caused by many factors in our daily life for example lack of sleep, unhealthy food habits, digestive track issues. inflammation is the main condition for a disease to develop. Ayurveda’s treatment methods include herbal ingredients that contain many antioxidants, they prevent inflammations from occurring. Hence, we feel more energetic and livelier throughout the day.

Massage Benefits

Ayurvedic medicine includes massages with herbal oils that focus on specific pressure points of the body. These massages under the trained guidance ease muscle tension enhance to joint health and improve our skin’s condition. In Ayurveda, sesame oil is widely preferred in massage therapy.

Ayurvedic diet plays an important role in maintaining good health. This ancient medicine offers a procedure called Panchakarma that cleanses our body on the inside and removes all harmful toxins from the internal organs and the body tissues.
