Spring Sunday Reset: Making Sundays in Switzerland Feel Like Home

As you may or may not know by now, Sundays are for resting. It’s that one day of the week where we don’t have to worry about work or university projects, we get to decide how we want to relax or recharge. Whether you’re an adrenaline seeker, a chill relaxer, or someone who just needs a reset, you’ll definitely find something in this post to make your Sundays feel a little more like home.

Here is a glimpse of how Spring Sundays can look like here:

Description

Now I’m not mentioning anything about hiking. We all know it’s the default Swiss Sunday activity, and let’s be honest, if you live here, you’ve probably already been gently pressured into at least one hike. Instead, let’s explore some other fun, relaxing, and unique things to do when the sun starts shining and spring gives us a bit more free time.

DescriptionScenic Train Journeys

Embarking on a scenic train journey is the perfect way to soak in Switzerland’s stunning landscapes…minus the physical exhaustion of hiking. The Grand Train Tour of Switzerland is a classic, covering iconic sights like the Jungfrau-Aletsch region and the Matterhorn. If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, you can enjoy unlimited train, boat, and bus travel, making it a super convenient Sunday escape.

Personal favorite: The Brienz Rothorn Bahn: Switzerland’s only steam-powered mountain railway. It’s a nostalgic, scenic ride, and with a GA or Halbtax, the price is totally worth it for a perfect day trip.

Visit a Botanical Garden

Spring is the best time to explore Switzerland’s botanical gardens, which you can find in almost every major city. It’s a great way to connect with nature without leaving the city, and it’s totally free!

Where to go?

Geneva Botanical Garden : A peaceful green oasis by the lake, with over 16,000 plant species.
Zürich Botanical Garden:  Features futuristic glass domes and beautiful walking paths.
Bern’s Alpine Garden:  Perfect for discovering high-altitude Swiss flora.

Enjoy Lake Activities
Description
Swiss lakes come alive in the spring, and they offer endless options for a perfect Sunday:

Boat tours: Chill and take in the Alps from a different perspective.
Lakeside picnics: Pack some snacks and enjoy the view.
Simply strolling along the shore: Because sometimes, the simplest things bring the most joy.

The cool thing is that there are so many lakes, I don’t even have to make specific recommendations… even the smaller ones close to where you live could be amaizing for a Sunday walk.

Have a “Home Reset” Day

Sometimes, the best Sunday isn’t about going anywhere—it’s about recharging at home. Spring is the perfect season to refresh your space, take care of yourself, and reset for the week ahead.

✔️ Go for a walk in your neighborhood – No rush, no destination, just fresh air.
✔️ Meal prep for the week – Future you will thank you.
✔️ Do a little self-care – A face mask, a long shower, or just cozying up with a book.
✔️ Watch a feel-good movie – Nothing better than a relaxed Sunday night film.

Final Thoughts…

It’s all about finding what makes you feel good.

    1. Thank you Danielle for the positive feedback! I totally agree.. its so weird to see everything empty on Sundays… I hope now that the weather is getting warmer that we can find a few more interesting activities to do.

  2. Hi Erato, sometimes I‘m just annoyed of the sundays in Switzerland, everything is closed. But on the other hand it perfect to relax and take the day slow as you say. Last sunday for example I went with my boyfriend for a brunch in Lucerne and it was just awesome to enjoy the day together 🥞🍳 Enjoy your time back in Greek!
