SwissDayTrip: Brienz- Lauterbrunnen-Mürren- Iseltwald

Welcome to my travel blog series dedicated to exploring Switzerland economically through its efficient public transport system, primarily utilizing SBB services, thanks to various travel passes such as the Swiss Friend Pass for those under 25, the Swiss Travel Pass, or the GA Travelcard (https://www.sbb.ch/en).

I recommend starting your excursions early to make the most of your day and have time to visit and engage in all activities within the same day.

SECOND TRIP: Four places in the Swiss-German Speaking Region.

Map of the Interlaken Region with the marked route of the 4 places: Brienz, Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, and Iseltwald.

Today, we are venturing into our second journey. You can begin your day at the breathtaking Lake Brienz, surrounded by majestic mountains. If you’re visiting in the summer, take a boat ride to Interlaken Ost for a scenic journey. Otherwise, catch a train from Brienz, and make sure to secure a seat on the left side to soak in the stunning lake views. In just 20 minutes, you will arrive at Interlaken Ost, where you will catch another train to Lauterbrunnen.

The train ride to Lauterbrunnen lasts about 22 minutes, offering more picturesque views along the way from the right side of the train. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by the iconic Lauterbrunnen waterfall. But before heading there, step out of the train station to find a cable car that’ll whisk you up to Mürren in under 30 minutes. Once in Mürren, hop on a vintage mountain train for a scenic ride around the mountain, offering breathtaking views of the Alps, including Grindelwald’s mountains and even the Jungfrau Glacier (the Top of Europe).  Staubbach river views with a green background, photo taken from the train with the snow-covered Jungfrau in the background.

Mürren is a charming mountain ski village with cozy hotels and restaurants. Don’t miss the opportunity to snap a photo with the incredible mountain backdrop and enjoy a meal with panoramic views. To find this spot, head to Borthalten 1006, 3825 Mürren.

After exploring Murren, follow the trail back down to Lauterbrunnen, where you can marvel at the main waterfall. In the spring, summer, or fall, you can even hike up to the halfway point of the cascade for a unique perspective.

Lauterbrunnen boasts several cozy restaurants and cafes, perfect for a pit stop. Finally, hop back on the train towards Lauterbrunnen, transferring at Interlaken Ost. From there, a 30-minute bus ride will take you to our last stop Iseltwald, a charming village nestled on the opposite side of Lake Brienz, offering stunning sunset views if weather permits.

I hope you enjoy this fantastic excursion! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
