Best Practices of Small Companies and Startups on LinkedIn

Hi there,

Starting to create a LinkedIn company page can be quite challenging. Some people don’t always know where to start, what to say or what to do in order to stand out. Other people may have an account, but are a little lost and need inspiration on how to run their page. But you know what? It’s completely normal to be a little hesitant when you start. I know that feeling pretty well myself. But I can guarantee you that once you started and get a little familiarized with this social media, you’ll feel more confident very quickly.

To help understand in which direction you could go with your business page, here are some examples of small companies and startups based in Switzerland that do really well on LinkedIn.

Flyability

This start-up, who was awarded “Best Startup Company of Switzerland” in 2019, builds safe drones for inaccessible places. Here is their LinkedIn company page.

What they do particularly well on LinkedIn:
Flyability is especially good when it comes to the content they have on the networking platform. Indeed, their LinkedIn page is full of information that might be really interesting for their followers and target audience. Not only do they post regularly, but it is also varied. From their activities promotion, job offers, interviews of employees, communication of the company’s values to finally reposts of newspaper articles and so much more, there’s a wide range of information one can find on their LinkedIn page.

Nikin

Nikin is a sustainable clothing brand with the particularity to plant a tree for each product sold. Here is the LinkedIn Nikin page.

What they do particularly well on LinkedIn:
Nikin is very interactive on the social media. For instance, they recently did a contest to engage with their audience. People often like funny and interactive content, and contests are especially great for that. One can feel that their presence on LinkedIn is not just to be there because every company is there, but really because they want to connect with people and create a community around a topic that is the core of the brand.

Qoqa

In short, QoQa is a company that offers every day products and services of different brands at reduced rates on the company’s website. Here you’ll find their LinkedIn company page.

What they do particularly well on LinkedIn:
One of the things that makes QoQa special is the way they communicate. Using funny, original and quirky sentences. And they added that pretty well into their LinkedIn page. Indeed, we can see what makes the essence of their branding. And it’s quite important for companies to stay authentic and true to themselves as well on LinkedIn.

Ligentec

This start-up is a B2B company specialized in Nanotechnology. You can see their LinkedIn page here.

What they do particularly well on LinkedIn:
The content they post is really diverse and could interest different types of people: jobs seekers, (potential) partners, (potential) clients, but also more generally people interested in their industry. Not only does Ligentec post job offers, but the company also promotes its presence at events, its webinars as well as the newest videos posted on YouTube, and a lot more. And they do all of this regularly, which is a great way to get a faithful audience.

If there is something to remember it’s that you should really not just gain more followers, but really interact and engage with them. The more you’ll do that, the better you’ll build strong relationships. And you’ll see, it’s like a circle, the more and more you’ll engage with them, the more followers you’ll get, and so on. To start a conversation, questions and call-to-actions are really useful. But did you think about contests? They could be a great tool as well.

Do you see any other ways to engage with your LinkedIn audience? And, do you know any companies that have a good LinkedIn business page? Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts in the comments below. I’ll be happy to learn more about what you think.

In my next article, I’ll talk about LinkedIn ads and whether it’s worth it to use for small companies and start-ups.
