Before I started planning my wedding, I was scared. Not about commitment or logistics—scared that I’d end up feeling like a little princess in someone else’s script. That I’d be standing in a perfectly styled setup, smiling through something that didn’t really feel like me.
Maybe it’s all the films, or the endless Pinterest boards with perfect lighting and people who seem too poised to be real. But I just knew I didn’t want that.
What I wanted was a wedding that felt calm, true, and a little unpolished. Something that didn’t look like it came out of a magazine—but maybe like it came out of a memory.
📖 Real story
The shift happened after a small fight with my fiancé. We had found this stunning venue, with an open-air hotel room and postcard views—but it felt wrong. Too staged. Too cold. Too much like a “wow” moment for Instagram, not a place where guests from different countries who didn’t know each other could feel relaxed.
That moment changed everything.
We ended up choosing a cosy chalet-style spot instead, with amazing food and a warm, lived-in feeling. We stopped asking “what looks amazing?” and started asking “what feels right?”
So… Where Do You Even Start?
So no, I didn’t find inspiration on TikTok. Because if I didn’t want our wedding to look like an influencer shoot, maybe I shouldn’t take cues from one.
And if you feel the same—if you don’t want to scroll your way through someone else’s idea of your day—then maybe start here.

Find Out What Inspires You Most: Take this quick quiz
The whole idea of creating a wedding that looks like you doesn’t really work if you’re just copying what someone else did—including me.
This mini quiz is just a soft little guide to help you feel out your own path. But as always—just do you.
1. What makes you feel most excited when thinking about your wedding?
- 📸 The colors, the dress, the overall vibe
- 🫶 Being surrounded by people I love
- 🌿 Having the ceremony somewhere that already feels meaningful
2. What sounds more fun this weekend?
- 📸 Curating a moodboard and scrolling Pinterest
- 🫶 Having coffee with a friend and talking about their wedding
- 🌿 Visiting a local florist or venue you’ve always loved
3. Your favorite kind of memory is…
- 📸 Visually beautiful
- 🫶 Deep and emotional
- 🌿 Tied to a specific place or moment
4. When you’re unsure about a decision, you usually…
- 📸 Research online
- 🫶 Ask someone I trust
- 🌿 Go outside, take a walk, feel it out
Your results
- Mostly 📸 — Start with Visual Platforms: Pinterest or Instagram can help you find your vision—but try searching with words that reflect you, not trends. “Civil ceremony in the woods” goes further than “boho wedding.”
- Mostly 🫶 — Talk to People: Start with conversations. Ask your mum how she chose her dress. Ask your friend what she remembers most. These stories are where the magic starts.
- Mostly 🌿 — Follow the Feeling: Your inspiration might already be around you. A quiet café, a ferry ride, your favorite meal. Notice what feels like home—and let that shape your day.
Is your inspiration mostly 📸 🫶 or 🌿? Tell me your result below!
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, your wedding isn’t built on inspo boards—it’s built on meaning. The people you love, the places that feel like home, the little choices that quietly say this is us.
Start there. The rest will follow.
