5 interior design trends for 2025

In my last post I want to dive into trends topic. Trends surround us everywhere: clothes, accessories, travel directions, food etc. Interior design is no exception. In 2025 interior designers focus on wellness, sustainability, and personal expression. This year’s trends create spaces that not only look beautiful but also contribute to our wellbeing and connect us with the natural world. Based on expert insights and recent design forecasts, I provide you 5 major trends in the way how we design our living spaces in 2025.

Biophilic design

The biophilic design stands out in integrating the natural elements into the built environment to create spaces that increase well-being, tranquility and natural creativity. It often includes the presence of organic textures, flowing forms, natural light, indoor greenery, and tactile high-performing surfaces that represents the organic beauty of natural materials in fashionable way. This trend responds to our increasing urbanization and digital development to promote a trend to live in harmony and balance with nature. “People are seeking spaces within their homes that let them recharge,” explains interior designer Brigette Romanek, highlighting how usage of biophilic elements creates “retreat” environments (Flanagan K., 2024).

It’s about more than just aesthetics: studies have in fact shown that biophilic spaces can reduce stress, enhance mood, and improve overall well-being. From my perspective, a living space looks more balanced and complete to me if it contains plants. I consider them to be one of the most beautiful types of ‘accessory’ for interiors, especially if the plants are tall and large. So if you experience stressful period in your life, just buy a palm and be happy.

Color trends

The color palette for 2025 interior design is moving away from all-white minimalism toward more expressive and nature-inspired tones. Designers highlight several key colors dominating interiors this year.

For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort. As well as fashion designers, interior experts actively integrate this color in living spaces.

Another trend of 2025 – soft (butter) yellow. It is a great alternative to simple whites. “It’s such an uplifting and calming space,” says interior designer Beata Heuman, who has used this shade in her own home (McDermott K., 2025). These lighter yellow tones create gentile, cheerful environments that still express sophistication.

Olive green also play key role in 2025 interiors. Lizzie Green, interior designer, notes that this shade works particularly well in cases, where clients are choosing to “color drench” by coating ceilings, joinery, and walls in this rich color (McDermott K., 2025).

Tactile materials and textured surfaces

2025 motivates us to decorate with materials that feel as good as they look. Natural, raw materials like wood, stone, and linen are creating both warmth and inviting atmospheres in homes across the globe (Ikea article). The tactile experience—feeling, touching, and experiencing your home with all your senses—has become increasingly important.

Textured fabrics, particularly bouclé, continue to be a must have in 2025 interiors. These soft, attractive, and richly textured materials provide a sense of comfort while adding depth to interiors (Ferraz A, 2025). In combination with neutral palettes, these trending materials create an chic aesthetic.

My personal #1 preference – is natural stone.  Designers often employ this material for countertops, dining tables, or statement wall features (Ferraz A, 2025). For instance, pure marble in contrasting colors adds a dramatic touch to both minimalist and contemporary interiors, offering a perfect balance between nature and modern design.

Wellness-Focused zones

Relaxation became increasingly important nowadays. Sometimes, we all need time alone in a quiet place to read a book or simply listen to music. Designers follow this trend as well and create dedicated spaces for relaxation and wellbeing.

“This year’s big interior design trend is all about creating your own little sanctuary,” according to IKEA Switzerland. After analyzing millions of real estate listings, Zillow noted that mentions of the word “cozy” have increased by 35 percent compared to last year (Flanagan K., 2024). Many people design their homes with a focus on wellbeing, isolating spaces specifically for relaxation—such as cozy places for meditation or reading corners. These quiet places allow individuals to find a balance in everyday life. Moreover, by implementing different accessories in  such zones, people show their personalities and unique view on interior design.

1970s renaissance

One major trend for 2025 is the revival of 1970s interior design, often called “retro chic.” This trend is characterized by a mix of vintage elements, pastel and bright colors, and playful patterns that bring energy and nostalgia into modern homes (Hill L., 2023).

Key Features of 70s-Inspired Interiors:

  • Earthy color palettes: warm, organic tones like avocado green, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and brown create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

  • Bold patterns: large-scale geometric, floral, paisley, and psychedelic prints are used on wallpapers, upholstery, and rugs, reflecting this era’s atmosphere of self-expression (Hill L., 2023) (DesingDash, 2023).

  • Curved and low-slung furniture: sofas and chairs with rounded edges are signature elements of 70s era.

Poltrona Frau is a good example of incredible 1970s design reimagined for the modern era. More about this brand you can read in my previous post.

To follow this trend, designers recommend combining these vintage features with contemporary touches, such as mixing bold 70s furniture with accessories. At the end a space feels both nostalgic and fresh.

These trends demonstrate that good design in 2025 goes beyond aesthetics to consider how our spaces make us feel, how they support our mental health, and how they impact the planet. Let me know in the comments which trends you would like to implement in your home.
