A Spring Dream in Switzerland: For the Girls Ready to Bloom on Their Own

When you move abroad — especially as a young Latina or international student — it’s easy to feel small, unsure, even a little scared. New language, new people, new everything. And sometimes, you catch yourself waiting for someone to invite you, go with you, or make plans for you.

But here’s the truth I’ve discovered:

You don’t have to wait to live your life.
That’s exactly what I reminded myself the day I took a solo day trip to Morges, a charming Swiss town by the lake. Just me, my camera, and an open heart. It wasn’t a big plan or a major event. I had seen the tulip festival on Instagram, and something about it called my name. It looked like the kind of place I’d love to visit, peaceful, colorful, and gentle. So I chose a day, packed my bag, and simply went.

When I arrived, the park was glowing with color. There were tulips in every shade, families walking hand in hand, tourists taking photos, children laughing. And then there was me. Alone — and honestly, really proud of it. I walked slowly. I took deep breaths. I smiled without needing a reason. I took photos of everything I wanted, without rushing or asking anyone to wait for me.

People often ask me, “But who takes your pictures?” And the answer is simple: I do.

I always bring my tripod when I travel alone. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I can set it up anywhere, take my time, and capture how I truly feel in that place. If you love photos like I do, and you’re nervous about going alone, get yourself a tripod. It sounds small, but it makes a huge difference not just for your pictures, but for your confidence.

This little trip wasn’t just about flowers. It was about remembering that I can go out there and create memories for myself. I don’t need to wait for the perfect timing or for someone to come with me. I can choose myself. And that’s what I did.
