Welcome back to my travel blog series dedicated to exploring Switzerland economically through its efficient public transport system, primarily utilizing SBB services, thanks to various travel passes such as the Swiss Friend Pass for those under 25, the Swiss Travel Pass, or the GA Travelcard (https://www.sbb.ch/en).
I always advise starting your excursions early to make the most of your day and have ample time to visit and engage in all activities.
Sixth Trip: Aareschlucht- Thun- Bern
Today’s excursion begins at Aareschlucht West, where you’ll embark on a captivating journey through the incredible Aare Gorge. As you follow the Aare River amidst towering rocks and cascading waterfalls, you’ll be immersed in this wonderful adventure for approximately 1 hour, marveling at the breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps surrounding the river. You can check the price of the tickets in their web www.aareschlucht.ch
Afterward, you can catch a train back from Aareschlucht, this time heading towards Thun, with a total journey duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Along the way, you will pass by the enchanting lakes of Interlaken, renowned for their stunning azure waters. I recommend sitting on the left side of the train from Aareschlucht Ost to Interlaken Ost, then switching to the right side for the journey from Interlaken Ost to Thun, where you will be treated to picturesque views of the lake.
Thun is like something out of a fairy tale, with its castles and its river adorned with a special hue that will captivate you. I recommend climbing the wooden staircase known as Kirchtreppe, with its charming wooden cover and tiles, until you reach Stadtkirche, the central church, where you can enjoy marvelous views and can have your lunch.
Next, you will visit the medieval castle, Schloss Thun, and explore the quaint streets of the old town. To help you plan your time, you can expect to spend around 2 hours exploring Thun before heading to Bern, the capital of Switzerland.
In Bern, you will have the opportunity to visit its main landmarks, including the iconic Zytglogge clock tower. If you are visiting Bern during Spring, Summer or Autumn you cannot miss the bears located in Bärenpark.
An essential stop during your visit to Bern is Rosengarten, where you can witness an incredible sunset against the backdrop of panoramic city views. There is also a restaurant atop the hill where you can savor Swiss dishes like raclette or fondue while enjoying the magnificent vistas. As a fun fact, don’t forget that Einstein and Bern are historically linked, as this is where Einstein developed and published some of his most influential ideas in theoretical physics. You will find a bench at Rosengarten adorned with Einstein’s statue, providing a perfect spot to contemplate the stunning panoramic view.
I hope you enjoy this fantastic excursion! If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
