Insider’s Guide to Keto: Student Edition for Budget-Friendly Eating??‍??

Hey everyone, welcome back to our keto journey!?

Today, we’re diving into a topic near to every student’s heart (and wallet): how to eat keto without breaking the bank. Get ready for practical strategies, savvy shopping tips, and mouthwatering yet budget-friendly meal ideas to help you ace the ketogenic lifestyle on a student budget!

But first, a quick refresher on what the ketogenic diet involves. Keto focuses on high-fat, moderate-protein, and low-carb foods to put your body into a state of ketosis, where it burns fat for fuel instead of glucose.

Now let’s get into it

#1 Mastering the Grocery Store
Plan Ahead
Remember the old saying, “Fail to plan, plan to fail.” This rings especially true when you’re eating keto on a budget. Spend some time each week planning your meals. This strategy will not only curb impulse buys but also ensure you’re using ingredients efficiently, which reduces waste.

Look for Sales and Stock Up
If you have extra freezer space, take advantage of sales on staples like meat, veggies, and yes, even avocados (tip: you can freeze the flesh!).

?Tip #1: Visiting supermarkets during late hours might score you discounts on products nearing their expiration dates.

?Tip #2: Use apps like LidlPlus to plan your meals around the week’s discounts.

Embrace frozen veggies and fruits
Frozen produce, like keto-friendly berries, cauliflower, and broccoli, is generally more affordable and lasts longer, so you don’t have to rush to eat them.

Opt for cheaper proteins
Eggs are an incredibly affordable and versatile keto-friendly option that you can use in numerous dishes.

#2 Keto Grocery List on a Budget

This essential list will help you navigate grocery shopping without emptying your wallet.?

#3 Cost-effective Lifesavers

Cook in Batches
As students, our time is precious. Cooking in bulk can save both time and money. Prepare large portions of keto-friendly meals that you can refrigerate or freeze for later. This strategy will keep you from resorting to non-keto options during a crunch.

Make Your Own Keto Snacks
While pre-packaged keto snacks are convenient, they can also be pricey. Making your own at home is not only cheaper but also lets you control the ingredients. Here are some simple recipes to try:

Would you also include legumes into the menu? Such as chickpeas, lentils, ..?

    1. Hi Juan,

Unfortunately legumes are usually high in carbs and therefore not suitable for a Keto diet, however there are some legumes such as soybeans, black soybeans and peanuts that can be included into your menu 🙂
