The Metaverse is not only a place to play, it is also a place of culture. More and more games are making their transitions by organising large scale concerts inside their games for free.
You’ve probably already heard of Fortnite, the hugely successful game that released in Beta in 2011 and became the most played game in 2017 with the release of the Battle Royal mode. After breaking all records Fortnite decided to take it to the next level by inviting superstar Travis Scott to perform in 2020 directly inside the game. This collaboration resulted in an 8-minute show where players could walk around the artist during his performance. This collab named Astronomical was seen by 12.3 million players during the first broadcast, and after four broadcasts it has gathered a total of 27.7 million viewers, these impressive figures prove once again that the success of events related to the metaverse is only growing, especially since it was not the first try for Fortnite as it had already invited the artist Marshmello to perform in 2019 and had already gathered over 10 million players.

More recently it was Roblox who organised a concert with the group Twenty One Pilots, with 42 million active players on the game, such an event could only be a success. This collaboration was born following Warner’s investment of 520 thousand dollars in this game. Roblox established a whole strategy around this event by organizing a pre-show quest to unlock the band’s avatar outfits, this quest gathered more than 400 million visits! The final show was a 21 minute concert of the two famous artists and was a total success.

Although this may sound revolutionary, Fortnite and Roblox didn’t invent anything, in 2006 U2 and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra were already performing on the game Second Life (mentioned in a previous article).
