You can take the first steps to improve your website SEO health already today by optimizing the texts you have in your landing pages. Start with the main page and go further to each category page and product pages. There has always been a dilemma wether to write for search engines or for people. You don’t need to decide, in this article I will explain how to write the text that will suit your readers and work just amazing for Search Engines.
Let’s get started with practical advice!
The text for the main landing page should be approximately 500 words long. The best is to place it all together avoiding hiding it behind the drop down menus or other controls.
Show these requirements to your copywriter or use yourself if you are the one writing 🙂
These are the general rules:
- Your writing should sell.
- Avoid repetitions in a text.
- Make sure your writing doesn’t hurt, has no insulting or discriminating words, and speaks highly of prospects.
- Never put disputable facts and statistics in your writing.
- Avoid unnecessarily long sentences and paragraphs.
- Make sure to use bulleted lists in a text.
- A text should be written on behalf of the company.
Keywords rules:
- Do not split keywords with other words. Use them as they are. For example if your keyword is “Moving in Luzern” – do not put extra words in between the phrase.
- Use keywords in the introductory part of the text.
- You should avoid overusing the keywords. Ensure your writing doesn’t have 2 or more keywords in the same sentence.
Remember that too few mentions of your keywords can leave the search engines wondering what you’re about, while too many repetitions tell the search engines you’re a spammer.
– Use keywords correctly in terms of grammar (you can insert articles and prepositions in their structure if needed). You can change the word order as well.
- Do not write your text just for the sake of putting keywords in it. Your writing is as much for the machines as it’s for PEOPLE!
Headings
- The normal length of a heading is 5-6 words
- All headings should contain the keywords
- A catchy headline is the backbone of your writing! That is why it should be meaningful and convey the essence of a paragraph.
No-no headlines are the ones made up of:
- keywords only: Buy wallets online; “Web domains for sale”; “Cheese products in Switzerland”;
- nonsense phrases: “The solution that makes it better”; “Our services are what you’re looking for”;
- words that may sound offensive: “Don’t be a moron – Be a smart shopper”;
- super-aggressive selling techniques: “Buy our stuff even if you have no money”; “Hey, you, take a look at our product right now”.
Text structure
Your text should contain the following parts:
- the introductory paragraph – a short presentation of a company and its benefits
- the body (this part of a text may contain several paragraphs) – explain what are the main features of a product/ service you are writing about; mention the core values of a product/ service; explain how a reader can benefit from it.
- the conclusion – this part should include the CTA sentences and contact informationPlease let me know the questions about SEO text for your business in the comments section bellow and feel free to ask me any SEO related questions in LinkedIn or offer partnership opportunities.
