Meet The Female Entrepreneurs

Female Entrepreneurship

Women are highly underrepresented in the startup sector with a share of around 20% – looking at science and tech-based startups the share is even 10% female founders, according to Startup Campus data.

I wish I would only about talent in this post and not about the gender. However, it is not the case yet. Nevertheless, the situation is not all doom and gloom.

In this post, you will find about 3 female role models in the startup ecosystem and read their stories. Besides being founders, all of them has a mission of empowering women to overcome systematic and societal gender problems.

Whitney Wolfe Herd
Founder and CEO of Bumble

Whitney Wolfe Herd is the founder of the groundbreaking dating app, Bumble where only women can make the first move.

She says she understood what was wrong with gender dynamics at a young age, and now wants to empower women by giving them the power to make the first move.

Before Bumble, she cofounded Tinder but left company because of being subjected to sexual harassment by someone in the founding team of the app. After learning about her experience, it truely resonated with me that her aim is to give women a kinder and safer place to date by founding Bumble.

According to BBC news, the 31-year-old became the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire when she took Bumble public in February. (Source: BBC)

Heidi Zak
Co-founder and CEO of ThirdLove

Zak’s mission is to make every woman wear a comfortable, beautiful, and fit bra, so that she feels confident. Her company provides bras in more than 80 sizes. Zak left her job at Google, dreaming of providing women with better choices and marketing ThirdLove’s products in a way that would not harm their intelligence or pursue impossible beauty standards. Her company launched Fit Finder, a tool to find a bra that truly fits in one’s body. ThirdLove is proud of donating bras worth more than $30 million to women in need.

Zak is doing her best to promote and develop women in the technology and startup sectors. She is also investing in early-stage startups founded by females as an angel investor. (Source: LinkedIn )

The Mom Project is an evolutionary digital marketplace and community that connects talented female professionals with world-class businesses. The Mom Project’s aim is to provide women with work opportunities that would suit with their personal dreams and goals.
