Stress Less. How Quotes helped me cope with being Stressed.

“You’re the author of your life’s story. You can start a new chapter any time you choose.”

Amy Artherton

Does that make me look stupid?

Reading empowering words or quotes and setting them as my phone background is something I’ve been doing for a long time. I started doing so when I was lovesick for the first time, being fourteen can be tough, you know.

Trust me, a lot of people probably started taking me a lot less serious when they saw it, but I did not know how bad it was until quite recently.  A study conducted by researchers of the University of Waterloo (linked here) found out that there actually is a link between being stupid – well let’s call it less fortunate in terms of intelligence – and being enthusiastic about very deep quotes.

What I’m trying to tell you

Anyways this is not what this blog is about. What I wanted to do is share an experience I had a couple of days ago. When I got back from work ago feeling really overwhelmed and stressed by everything happening around me I looked at my phone and read “Stress Less”.

As simple as it sounds, reading those words in the situation I was in helped me a lot. It made me clear up my mind whether it was actually worth it to worry so much about something I did not have the capability of changing.

I am not trying to tell you to start decorating your walls with “empowering quotes” or to start changing your wallpaper as well. All I am trying to share with you is what I learned from this.

Learn from my experience

What I took from this experience are three points that I try to ask myself, that might also help you in the future:

  1. Sometimes we are so focused on stressing about being stressed that we forget to take a deep breath. Maybe things aren’t so awful after all?
  2. Don’t try to control things that are out of your control.
  3. Ask yourself: will the thing that is stressing me at the moment still relevant in three months?
Many things simply fall into place and all of the worrying was just a waste of energy and time.

Do you also read inspiring quotes? What do you take from doing it?

Also, why don’t you go and check out my Instagram Page, where you can share your experiences?

  1. I do like your way of storytelling, it really does sound personal. Regarding Quotes, yes they do often impact me, but it needs to be at the right moment, as the same quote might sound stupid enough today, but on the next day it really empowers me.
