Creative Routine…and Confidence!

Want to feel more creative? There is no need to overhaul your life. Just 5-10 minutes a day can develop a creative habit that builds confidence, joy, and a deeper connection with yourself.

In this post, we’ll explore how to develop a creative routine that sticks and why doodling daily can reshape how you see yourself, not just as someone who draws, but as someone who creates.

For example, here are a couple of my first doodles when I started this journey.

I kept it simple by only using black pens. When I compare this to things that I create today, I notice how much my technique has improved. The lines are more smooth, I can add more details, and color!

Here are a could of my doodles from the weekend!

5 to 10 minutes a day!

Creativity often feels random or uncontrollable. But also… creativity loves structure. When you show up regularly, even for just a few minutes, you train your brain to shift into creative mode more easily!

A daily doodle practice:

  • Trains your brain to explore ideas without judgment

  • Reduces decision fatigue

  • Builds momentum and confidence through small wins

  • Makes creativity a habit

You can try… A doodle diary! Much like a sketchbook and journey combined. I have done this with my daily doodle creations and I can’t wait to show you everything i have created! (Look out for a video later this week!)

A doodle diary can help you to track your progress over time, keep track of all the new techniques you have tried, and its always fun to look back and see how far you’ve come! This will also help to build your confidence, looking to see how many times your have created something or how much better it looks. Talk about serotonin boost!

Recap:

  • Celebrate progress, not perfection.

  • Keep your early work.

  • Practice, Practice, Practice… and keep creating!

Karen Hendren

Hi, I’m Karen—an educator, lifelong learner, and creativity-seeker. For over 10 years, I’ve worked with children as a teacher and school leader, constantly inspired by the wild and wonderful ways young minds think. I’ve always been fascinated by how creative kids are, and just as curious about why so many adults lose touch with that creativity over time. Lately, I’ve been exploring doodling as a simple, joyful way to reconnect with my own creative brain. It’s part hobby, part self-discovery, and part science experiment as I learn more about how our brains work, grow, and imagine. Through this journey, I'm hoping to reignite my own creative spark, understand more about how the brain works, and inspire others to play, wonder, and rediscover the creative magic we all had as kids.
