What Truly Matters: The Heart of Wedding is Marriage

What comes to mind when you hear wedding? Maybe a flowing white gown, breathtaking bouquets of roses, golden-hour photos by a quiet lake. A moment so perfect it feels like it belongs in a love story.

I used to think that too. That’s what the movies show us—the dream day, the fairytale. But behind the lace and the vows, there’s something even more important: the marriage that follows.

Because here’s the real question: Is it just one magical day leading to a lifetime of disappointment? A love story that ends in heartbreak? No. A wedding should be the beginning of something real, something built to last—not just a beautiful day, but a beautiful life.

More Than an Institution – why marriage matters

At first, I didn’t see the point of marriage. I’m not religious, so it felt like just an institution. A formality. But over time, I realized it offers something deeper—security.

If you have kids, there’s a time when you’re vulnerable—physically, financially, emotionally. And even without children, challenges don’t disappear. Workplace bias, physical limitations, unexpected hardships—they exist.

Marriage isn’t just a piece of paper. It’s a commitment—a conscious decision to show up for each other, every single day. To grow, to adapt, to try, even when it’s not easy. It doesn’t mean things will always be perfect, but it does mean that you’ve chosen to face life together.

And that’s why choosing who you marry is just as important as choosing to marry at all. Which brings me to the most important question of all: How do you know if your partner is the right person to marry?

💡 Is Your Partner ‘The One’? Take this quick quiz

As we’ve already viewed, marriage is more than just love—it’s about building a life together. So how do you know if your relationship is truly ready for that commitment? Answer these questions honestly—no wishful thinking.

Disclaimer: This is just my perspective—every relationship is different, and only you know what’s right for you.

1. Kids or no kids: Future Chaos or Future Agreement?

  • ✅ We’re 100% aligned. We’ve talked about it and agree.
  • ⚠️ Uh… we’ll figure it out later?
  • 🚨 We want completely different things, but love will find a way… right?

2. Money Talks: Open or Awkward?

  • ✅ We talk openly about money and share similar habits.
  • ⚠️ We avoid money talk—it’s uncomfortable.
  • 🚨 Our financial styles clash, but we try not to think about it.

3. Conflict: Storm or Smooth Sailing?

  • ✅ We communicate well and resolve issues as a team.
  • ⚠️ We argue but usually let things blow over.
  • 🚨 Our fights are intense, and we never fully resolve them.

4. Trust & Teamwork: Solid or Shaky?

  • ✅ 100%—I trust them completely, in every way.
  • ⚠️ Mostly, but I sometimes second-guess things.
  • 🚨 If I’m being honest… I have some doubts.

Your Results!

  • Green flag! You and your partner are aligned in key areas.
  • ⚠️ You’ve got some gaps – better to talk them through now than later.
  • 🚨 Serious conversations ahead.

Marriage isn’t about perfection—it’s about partnership. So… how did you score?

Final Thoughts

A wedding is just a day, but a marriage is for life. The goal isn’t just to find someone you love, it’s to choose someone you can build a life with. Because at the end of the day, the dress, the flowers, the guest list—none of it matters if the person standing next to you isn’t the right one.

Found the right person? Now let’s plan a wedding that feels like you—starting with the first three key decisions to make, which we’ll explore in my next post.
