Hey everyone, welcome to my blog!
If you’re into adventures that leave your nose frosty and your heart warm, you’ve hit the jackpot. I’m about to take you on a wild ride through Finnish Lapland, where the snow is endless, and the dogs are not just pets, but your best pals and guides. So, buckle up, or rather, zip up your warmest coat, and let’s dive into the world of mushing together. It’s going to be a blast! Get a little sneak peak into the adventure on the video below:
? A Glimpse of My Mushing Experience in Finnish Lapland
This past February, me and six of my friends decided to take on the adventure of a lifetime. We spent 5 days in the snowy wilderness of Finnish Lapland. More exactly in Äkäskero. Each of us was steering a sled pulled by four incredible dogs. It was more than just a trip; it was a crash course in becoming part of a dogsled team. We fed them, cuddled them, and made sure they were as ready for the day’s adventure as we were, despite the freezing temps.
Our home away from home? Picture this:
❄️ cozy, rustic cabins in the middle of nowhere, with wood-burning stoves, no electricity, and no running water.
❄️ Our fancy bathroom was a walk outside, and our shower? A steamy sauna session.
It was back-to-basics living, and honestly, it was perfect.
Before we dive deeper, let me give you the scoop on mushing. Ever heard of it? It’s basically the cool, classic way of getting around in the snowy Arctic using a dog sled. Imagine a group of enthusiastic dogs pulling you across a winter wonderland – that’s mushing for you. The name “mushing” might sound a bit quirky, but it’s got roots in history. It comes from the old French word “Marche!” which means “Walk!” or “Go!”. The early French-Canadian trappers used to say it to their dogs, and it eventually turned into “Mush!” in English. But mushing is more than just a way to travel; it’s about the incredible bond between humans and their four-legged friends, tackling some seriously chilly weather together.
So here’s the plan: over the next weeks, I’m going to spill all the deets about our epic mushing trip. We’re talking everything from the brave-hearted dogs that led the way, to the gear that kept us from turning into human popsicles, the ins and outs of driving a dog sled, the stunning views that had us pinching ourselves, where we crashed at night, and all the day-to-day adventures in between. And I’ll wrap it up with some final thoughts that’ll make you wish you were there.

Awesome Jeanette?
Thank you Peter!
