Let’s be honest — most of us are carrying beliefs about success, emotions, and “mental strength” that we never consciously chose.
We picked them up from hustle culture, social media, childhood messaging, or even well-meaning advice like:
“Push through it.”
“Stay positive.”
“Work hard — always.”
But somewhere along the way, those messages turned into pressure. And that pressure can disconnect us from what actually helps us thrive.
Together with my peer Anna (read her blog here), we teamed up to bust some of the most common myths around training, nutrition, and mental health — each of us tackling the area we know best. While Anna unpacks popular misconceptions about workouts and fueling your body, I’m diving into 5 mindset myths that often go unquestioned — but deeply affect how we feel, perform, and take care of ourselves.
❌ 1. “You need to be productive all day to be successful.”
✅ Truth: Breaks sharpen your focus. Rest enhances performance.
I used to feel guilty for stepping away from my laptop — as if being constantly busy was the only way to prove I was doing “enough.” But I’ve learned that the quality of what I do depends on my energy and clarity. A short break, a quick walk, or even just closing my eyes for a moment makes me more creative, more efficient, and much more present.
❌ 2. “If you’re anxious, you’re weak.”
✅ Truth: Anxiety is a natural, human response — not a personal flaw.
There are days when I feel wired, restless, or overwhelmed — and for a long time, I saw that as failure. But anxiety isn’t a character weakness. It’s a message from the body asking for care. What helps me most in those moments is slowing down, breathing deeply, and allowing space for what I feel instead of fighting it.
❌ 3. “Resting means you’re lazy.”
✅ Truth: Rest is recovery — for your mind, your body, and your emotions.
We celebrate hustle, but we don’t celebrate stillness — and that’s a problem. Rest isn’t an indulgence; it’s a requirement for resilience. I’ve found that when I intentionally build in downtime (even if it’s 10 minutes with tea and a blanket), I return to my tasks with more clarity and strength.
❌ 4. “You have to feel motivated to take action.”
✅ Truth: You don’t wait for motivation — you create it by starting small.
I can’t tell you how many times I waited to “feel ready” before writing, filming, or even just exercising. And guess what? That moment rarely came on its own. What works instead is starting tiny — opening a notebook, stepping outside, lighting a candle — and letting momentum build. Motivation often shows up once we’re already in motion.
❌ 5. “You have to be positive all the time.”
✅ Truth: Toxic positivity suppresses what’s real. Honesty creates space to heal.
You don’t need to smile through struggle. You don’t need to be okay all the time. And you definitely don’t need to pretend. Feeling sad, frustrated, or anxious doesn’t make you “negative” — it makes you human. In fact, the most emotionally strong people I know are the ones who feel fully and show up anyway.
Your Turn: Which Myth Resonated With You Most?
We all have one mindset myth we’ve believed for way too long.
📌 Drop the number of the myth (1–5) that hit home for you in the comments — I’d love to hear your thoughts and how you’re rewriting your own beliefs.
And if this post felt like something your past self needed to hear, feel free to share it with someone who might need the same.
