Ras Al-Khaimah, a less well-known Emirate about 75 minutes northwest of Dubai. Acacias and tumbleweed dot the desert landscape, interrupted only briefly by scant signs of life: A camel, a herd of goats, a flock of birds. We stop at the Al Hamra Golf Club for lunch and an informal discussion with Mark Pey of Swiss, Director of Sales in the MENA Region. Mark discusses competition in the UAE, comparing the relatively difficult conditions in Europe (flight time restrictions, labor laws and compensation, dependence on Lufthansa) with the relatively liberal market provided to the Emirates by the UAE.
