A witch takes flight
A lot has happened this week. We expanded on our idea of a chaotic Shopping Simulator. In Reference to Halloween, which happens to be the day after our project deadline, our protagonist is a witch. The witch needs ingredients for her magic potions, so she swings herself on her trusty broom and wreaks havoc in the spooky fairy tale-inspired shopping mall to get the stuff she needs.
Now with our protagonist being a witch that flies, we have to consider the verticality of our level. That means the controls of the character and the level design got more complex and therefore harder to implement. On the other hand with multiple floors to the mall and the even more movement options the chaos that ensues will be magnified.
The art direction is based on cartoony and spooky fairy tale aesthetic in a medieval setting, fitting for Halloween. The ingredients you have to collect are just what you expect a witch to put in her magic potions, like insects, rotten cheese, poisonous mushrooms and other yukky stuff.
For the gameplay: The items on the shopping list, as well as the items on the market shelves are randomized, so every time the level is played, it is different. Once you find an item on your list, you have to grab it and place it in your shopping basket, which you can grab and transport as well. And all that has to be done to a certain time limit, which gets extended the more stuff is destroyed. So you have no excuse to play all goody-goody, you are the Chaos Witch after all.
