Studio Game 1, Week 2: “Dealicious” (former “VeggieVrenzy”) keeps developing

Renaming the Game

After little discussion, we agreed that “VeggieVrenzy” was not fitting the idea of our game well. Additionally, it’s not about the vegetarian specifically, nor does the “V” in “Vrenzy” look nice. Thus, we agreed on a new, more neutral name called “Dealicious”.

Update on Game Flow and Rules

Here a small update on how the game currently works: There are three creatures/eaters attached to the border of a playing field. The distance between those three is always the same, if one is moved, all of them rotate together. Food periodically spawns at the center of the playing field, moving into a random direction. If it hits a wall, it bounces off, if it hits a hungry mouth, it’ll be consumed. This increases the happiness of that creature, keeping the game going. If any of the creatures reaches a happiness of 0, the game ends. It is still the case that, if the food isn’t matching the consumer, it’ll puke and the vomit is now in the playing field. The vomit has to be removed as it threatens to be eaten by another head again, spawning yet another ball of vomit, ultimately leading to the players defeat, as “unfitting food” reduces the happiness of an eater. The happiness also reduces itself over time to force the player to consume rather than just evade food.

Prototyping:

To show you guys how we approximately imagine it to look like, here’s a paper prototype for you.

If played on the smartphone or tablet, the playing field will most likely be a rectangle.

What’s next?

Currently we’re creating 3D Assets and programming our game. Despite some struggles we’re motivated to keep going and sure to succeed.
