By granting a Creative Commons license, the rights holders determine what users allowed to do with the licensed work. The basic idea of a Creative Commons license is that the work may be shared and redistributed as freely as possible – always provided that the authors are named and the work is correctly cited. This basic permission to redistribute the work can be restricted, for example by prohibiting commercial use by third parties.
Six licenses are available. There is also the option to waive all rights, including the right to be named:
