PILOTING DESIGN AS A CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING APPROACH IN SCHOOLS
piloting craft-based design competences as creative problemsolving approach
Visit this section to learn more about the design workshops offered for grade four classes in Emmen, and discover how craft was promoted as creative learning approach, which uses creative methods such as storytelling and prototyping to reinterpret problems to create new understanding of existing objects and situation.
Visit this section to learn more about our pilot Design Workshop which experimented in creating an educational experience by making learning ‘fun’ for school children, through means of craft and design. The overarching objective of the workshop was to introduce “thinking through making” and problem solving as part of the school activity.
The project created sample workshops for how children can engage in artisanal craft as design strategy – across two different educational systems in Switzerland and India. The educational formats enabled children to learn about craft as means to explore questions or situations holistically in an iterative process.
