Automated sample mount for efficient measurements of light scattering

Automated sample mount at CC EASE.
Automated sample mount at CC EASE. A light redirecting component is installed on sample position 1 and illuminated by a wide, collimated beam. Position 2 is empty.

The scanning gonio-photometer for measurements of light scatter could be extended for the project High Resolution Complex Glazing Library BIMSOL supported of the Swiss Federal Office for Energy.

A novel sample mount, developed by pab advanced technologies Ltd., Freiburg, allows to switch between two sample positions and a reference measurement to characterize the illuminator. The incident light direction can be automatically configured from the control software. Samples of up to 297mm x 210mm and 1000g weight are supported.

The extension provides an efficient means to perform measurements of the Bidirectional Scattering Distribution Function (BSDF) for many incident light directions. This is of particular interest for the generation of data-driven models to minimize effects of interpolation between light distributions resulting from different incident directions.
