Mindful Design: Isabelle to Teach at the NID’s Open Elective 2024

Isabelle Dechamps and S. Guru Prasad are selected to give a course at this year’s Open Elective on Cultures of Care, which is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students across the three campuses and all disciplines of National Institute of Design (NID).

Their course, “Mindful Design: Co-Creating Cultures of Care,” invites participants to experience, explore and reflect on a mindful design process. Mindful design facilitates a process of conscious decision-making by creating self-awareness and shifting the focus from an external to an internal locus of control through mindful reflection. Over two weeks, students will work in interdisciplinary teams at the NID in Ahmedabad to develop ‘cultures of care’ for a self-defined context within the university environment, testing a new paradigm for design methods and a holistic approach to design.

Isabelle and Guru will share discoveries from their research within the joint PhD programme in Eco-Social Innovation by Design, and invite students to contribute to their research process as co-researchers.
Their research questions for the workshop are:
– How can design tools and mindsets be transformed into mindful design tools and mindsets?
– How does a mindful framing change people’s design approach and its outcomes?

Answers and insights from the course will be available here soon!
