The Data Stewardship Network at HSLU comprises the units that support researchers in the field of Research Data Management (RDM). This network consists of a 1st and 2nd level support structure that together ensure researchers have access to the necessary resources and guidance to manage their data effectively.
1st Level Support
The 1st Level Support serves as the first point of contact for researchers and includes various units such as the Grants Office, Ethics Committee, Libraries, ZHB Open Science, and in the future, the Open Science Ambassadors. These actors assist researchers with setting up and organizing their research data, as well as addressing questions on data protection, funding, and ethical guidelines.
2nd Level Support
For more complex inquiries, the 2nd Level Support provides deeper expertise. This includes the Legal Services, Data Protection Officers, IT Services, and the Center for Teaching, Learning and Research (ZLLF). These units support researchers in addressing specific challenges related to data protection laws, technical requirements, and research competencies.
The network is also connected with other key stakeholders at HSLU, such as the Research Council, HED Research, and the research leads of the departments. External requirements related to research data management—set by funding agencies, swissuniversities, or Swissethics—must be translated into practical measures applicable to HSLU.
Goal of the Network
The main goal of this network is to provide researchers with short communication paths and ensure they can quickly and efficiently reach the right contact person for their research data management inquiries. Experience has shown that researchers often have highly individual questions specific to their field or project. For this reason, the individual units within the network can answer questions within their area of responsibility and, if necessary, refer researchers to other relevant units.
