In the autumn semester 2020, I got the opportunity to spend half a year at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm as an exchange student of the MSE Business Engineering. My study focus was on sustainability, mainly in the field of industrial production. The first-hand knowledge and inspiring discussions in a country that is a world leader in sustainable development was great.
On the other hand, the semester was divided into two independent study periods. This system offers fewer courses during the period of seven weeks, but a more focused perspective on the subject. In addition, different forms of exams were conducted, such as final exams with online supervision, graded project work with online presentations or “home exams”.
Corona was also present in Sweden, yet government restrictions allowed small groups to get together and travel. So, I met nice people, had inspiring conversations and made valuable friendships.
I also took the opportunity to explore Sweden from the south to the north by train, Stockholm and its surroundings by bike and the archipelago by boat. Some breath-taking highlights were an autumn hike on the Kungsleden, a dog sledding adventure day in Ottsjö or an island adventure with an overnight bivouac under the open sky.
This student exchange was an unforgettable experience in a beautiful country and with friendly people. If you get the chance to go abroad, I can only recommend you to take it. It will be different, but unique.
