How can you prepare yourself for the career and life after a Service Design Master?

In this article, I’m sharing with you:

  • 2 visual summaries of the inspiring Q&A with alumni and a recruiter about a career in Service Design.
  • 1 Canva to help you imagine and prepare for future live or career paths.
  • The slides and a few photos of the day so that you see how the course was experienced.
What happened during that day?

On Thursday, 24th, 2025, we had a day centered around the career of a Service Design practitioner within the Master Service Design of the HSLU.

We explored:

  1. What are tips from alumni who’ve experienced the transition after the master and still remember it?
  2. How do recruiters analyze the application material of Service Design professionals?
  3. What are different life and career paths you can take after a Master in Service Design?
  4. What can you do today to prepare for the preferable future lives you envision?

And all of this happened in one day from 09:30 to 17:00 that still included:

  • 3 status updates from learners who share how their Service Design research thesis is evolving.
  • A lovely lunch with all the learners with good pasta and salad.
  • Sharing of CVs to learn from others.

The visual summaries

Service Design learners Rola Rafla and Martina De Felice interviewed Marta Angelillis, Jan Aerni and Mathieu Ritter, about tips for a career in Service Design. The two alumni and the recruiter shared lots of insights from their personal experiences.

These insights have been visually synthesized during the Q&A sessions by Sharaya Naik and Roman Engler

The slides of the course

Here is the slide deck I’ve used during the day to run the course. Feel free to copy the structure snd exercices of the course if you are a Service Design educator.

Why we are sharing these resources

We’re sharing all the resources that we used to run this one-day workshop so that it can:

  • Help future students: by getting a sense of what happens in the program before joining it.
  • Help other educators: by sharing how in-the-behind-the-scenes such workshops are designed and inspire them for their own approach in teaching Service Design
