DIY Home Decor Inspiration

Source Pinterest

As you might have already recognized from my previous posts: I love Pinterest. I find myself scrolling through my home feed on a daily basis to get some inspiration. Especially now as I will move in a new apartment my boards are filled with home decor, interior inspo and also DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects.

DIY gained a huge popularity in the last years. Most common examples are painting, remodeling, furniture building, tiles and mosaic arts and much more.  It always impresses me how and where some people get the creativity from to come up with those amazing simple ideas. Some people can really make treasure out of trash. For example creating a bathmat out of wine corks or little gift packages out of toilet paper rolls.

I haven’t done any of these projects yet due to time constraints and lack of creativity. However I definitely want to give it a try in the future because learning a new skill is so fulfilling. The sense of accomplishing a new project will reward you with some sort satisfaction because you will feel proud about your own hand-crafted product. On top it keeps your brain fit and boosts your planning and organization skills. While some people save a lot of money through DIY others even money with their innovative ideas. For now I would love to share my favorite DIY ideas with you.

Repurpose old furniture

I don’t know if you have ever heard of furniture foil before? They come in many different colors and designs.

Visit the online shop here.

It is really amazing as it can pimp up any old furniture and give them a stylish and new look.

The application is easy and it sticks on most of the surfaces.

Besides using it for furniture there are also stickers for bathroom or kitchen tiles:

Craft your own furnitures

How cool would it be to craft your own piece of furniture? Most of the material required can be bought in hardware stores or through online marketplaces. Also tools to assemble your projects are necessary. I assume not everyone owns diverse tools like drilling machines or hand saws at home. Before investing tons of money into it you can either ask your friends and family to borrow or you can checkout Sharely. This is a helpful platform where you can rent and share your hardware and tools with others for a little money.

For this stylish table you basically only need a slice of wood, the table legs (Hairpan legs availabe on Amazon for around 30€) and a drilling machine.  Inspiration and clear instructions can be found here.

For the hanging shelf all you need is a basic shelf, cord and a drilling machine.

Or what about this fancy tree branch lamp? I would say this is a more advanced project but the result is really stunning.

  1. This is great inspo, Stella! The hanging shelf and the special tiles are my favourite items 🙂 sometimes I wish I could put effort in this kind of things, but of course life comes in the way and I give priority to other (stupid) activities. You really made me want to try some DIY! I’m not particularly good at it but I’m gonna give it a try. I’ll let you know how it goes! Keep up the good work with these great ideas 😀

  2. I love DIY projects, but when it comes to touching up old furniture I am always scared to mess it up and tend to not do anything instead so I stick with side projects. I loved your ideas, I will attempt to make a macrame potholder on the weekend, wish me luck!

  3. Loved this article!! I personally can’t wait to try out the toilet paper roll gift package (very accurate for times when toilet paper is worth more than gold). I’m not very adept with DIY projects and I usually lose my patience quite quickly but I love the idea of making something beautiful out of trash!

  4. Hey Stella, I love this post! DIY is just great, and the best part about it is that you can create kind of an emotional value too. As you might have recognize in my dining room, there is still no proper lamp. I will definitely try out the one with the tree branch you recommended above. Thank you!
