Give your dress a second life!

Clothes often do not end up where we expect them to. Handing clothes over to second-hand shops or selling them at a flea market are good ways to reduce textile waste. Consider a few points and you are ready to give your clothes a new life.

Since the coronavirus forces us to stay at home, it might be a good time to tidy up your closet. Check out Stella’s blog. She explains how to declutter and keep your closet organized. Now you have a pile of clothes you want to get rid of? Please, do not throw them away! Give them a second life instead! This article will show you how to do so and what you have to pay attention to.

Usually, people get rid of their old clothes by throwing them into a clothing bin. Unfortunately, these clothes are not always recycled or used for charity. Of course, some organizations recycle clothes in a sustainable way or reuse them for good causes. However, many pieces simply end up in a landfill. So why not give your clothes to second-hand shops? Or sell them at a flea market? By doing so, you not only give your clothes a second life, but you can also earn a little money.

Please watch the short video, which mentions some points you should follow:

Do you have experience in giving your clothes to a second-hand store, or have you ever sold your old clothes at a flea market? Tell me about it in the comments section below.

By the way: If you live in Central Switzerland, an indoor flea market is held in Neubad in Lucerne every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. You can find more information here. A list of second-hand shops in Switzerland can be found in my last blog post. If you are interested in selling your old clothes online, my next blog post might be interesting for you. Stay tuned!

  1. Hi Anja, thanks for sharing these insights. I always feel sad if people really through good cloths away as the fabric can still be recycled. In Germany I often used the app “Kleiderkreisel” to sell my unwanted clothes online and give them a new life with a person who actually wears them. Bonus point: you can make some extra pocket money from your used clothing! 🙂

    1. Hey Katharina, thank you very much for your comment! I’m glad to hear you’re giving your clothes a second life. You might also be interested in my next post, in which I will write about online platforms like Kleiderkreisel.

  2. Hi Anja, such a nice and sustainable idea, I’ve never thought about that before! I usually give my clothes to my younger sister, but it’s not always possible. I’ll definitely try to sell them, maybe at the flea market in Neubad. Do you know if it is possible? 🙂

    1. Hey Margherita, thank you for your comment! But it is also a great idea to give your clothes to younger siblings. Until June all flea markets are cancelled due to the Corona crisis. But I also plan to sell my clothes there. Maybe we can rent a stand together 🙂

  3. Hi Anja! I always try not throw clothes away (if not too damaged) and giving them a second life it’s very important for me: both to help other people and also the planet! Thank you for the interesting video 🙂

    1. Hey Veronica, I’m glad to hear that. I also think that it is very important and will become even more important in the future. It’s nice that there are already many people who are paying attention to it.
