Developing Your Content Plan

Howdy, fellow pre-entrepreneur. You have a passion, want to make it a project, know how it benefits whom (or want to figure it out) and you have no idea what to do next? Welcome to idealuca’s wonderland. In this post, I’ll try to (forcefully) help/make you develop a content plan to promote your idea online.

If you already have a specific end in mind, a content marketing plan may be the way to go. If you don’t, it’s time to put that end into your mind. What am I talking about? Steer towards something! Floating in space doesn’t even go well in Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (recommended read for nerds). So don’t! Set a key deliverable and put a date on it.

The ones among you who already know they will build a platform or become a full-stack creator may find it easier to find their key deliverables. It may be slightly trickier if you have a more generalised passion for knitting, coffee or foraging and I’ll be happy to help you figure this out. Know that every interest can easily become an event!

So, make me feel useful by mailing me your question or using the anonymous Query Solver (insert your pre-entrepreneurial-idea-related question, I’ll try to figure it out and post my findings on this blog).

Not desperate enough to ask yet? Then let’s get going. Check this out and skip to “Matching Content with Your Audience” if you already have a well-defined audience/persona. If your audience isn’t perfectly clear yet, iterate here.

Cool, that should get you started with a clearer plan. However, the odds are that you haven’t quite figured out the details yet. Worry not, the almighty internet is here for you. Find below another link. While the chatbot annoys me, there is some serious content in that post. If you sort of skipped the developing an actual content plan phase, they will tell you why you shouldn’t. They will tell you every detail you should consider. And they’ll give you metrics – making your project measurable makes all the difference. Think you’re ready to upgrade your plan to rock solid?

If you made it here and you do not yet have a plan… you’re doing this wrong. Click here to fix it or mail me for custom support. The rest of you, congratulations, you are one step closer to taking off! Now, having a plan is one thing – sticking to it is a completely different story. I want to leave you with one more useful link.

Remember when I mentioned the almighty internet? There’s also lots of free stuff to take away on there. I’m talking about tools to help you stay on track with your content. Personally, I prefer pen and paper and I know that’s old school and goes against my love for trees. It’s also messy and you’ll probably fare better with digital tools if you aren’t a highly structured individual. So, here are some 21st-century content-planning tools. Also, I use Asana to manage projects and tasks. Good luck on your pre-entrepreneurial journey!

  1. Hi Luca.

    Thanks for the useful links!
I know you said you prefer the pen-and-paper approach, but have you used any of the tools suggested on the last link you posted? If yes, which one would you recommend?

    Tks!

    1. Great to hear that the links were helpful. Most of these things I really do with a physical notebook. It really depends on what you want it to do. I use asana.com for task management (you can do project management with teams there as well, but some features are only available in the premium version). You can drag and drop tasks on multiple project trails, which I think is nice for handling the content plan. You can view all tasks by deadline without messing up the timeline structure as well. Is that what you are looking for? Otherwise please let me know the exact purpose the tool should fulfill.

  2. Thank you Luca for your second useful post! I actually use Asana already since some time and it’s a very useful project management tool that can be used also for the content plan.
The Ultimate Guide to creating a content plan is great, thank you for your research!
p.s. I like your interest in Foraging 🙂

    1. Great to be confirmed in my belief in Asana. Keep me posted about the foraging, I’m counting on doing that nature walk before the end of the semester.

  3. When you are building your custom home, there are so many different features and options to consider that it can simply get overwhelming. Whether you are thinking about expanding your kitchen, creating a his and hers master closet.
